Is it necessary to have an orgasm to enjoy sex?

You can enjoy sex without having an orgasm, but not being able to orgasm can be a problem for some people or their partners. The inability to orgasm is seen as a sexual dysfunction, and could have physiological or mental causes.

Orgasm difficulties

Some people find it difficult to have an orgasm with only sexual intercourse, however they can easily come through masturbation. However, some people do find it difficult to orgasm full stop.

Orgasm difficulties can be caused by a number of things, this includes:

  • sexual worries
  • being unable to relax
  • not being aroused enough
  • depression or stress
  • past traumatic sexual experiences

It is common to not orgasm every time that you have sex, but if it is something that you are concerned about then it is good to go and visit your GP, or even a sex therapist.

Enjoy sexual pleasure

Sexual intimacy and feeling aroused and sensual can be just as enjoyable as having an orgasm. For some, these feelings are even more enjoyable than the orgasm itself.

You and your partner should be able to enjoy all the feelings that surround arousal, and not just the orgasm. You might want to take time to be aroused with your partner, and this can happen by exploring one another’s bodies, bathing together, kissing, and even sensually touching each other.

Many people give each other oral sex or masturbate together to stimulate themselves and their partners as part of a healthy sex life.

Although you may not orgasm every time you have sex, it is extremely important that you enjoy yourself. The best way to enjoy your self is to be relaxed and with someone that you care about and that cares about you.
